As a child, Grzegorz Płonka (Michał Sikorski) struggles to communicate, leading to a diagnosis of autism. It later turns out that he is experiencing hearing loss. With the help of a hearing aid, Grzegorz discovers the world of sound and dreams of becoming a pianist, just like Beethoven. Yet no one believes that he will achieve this – except for his mother (Małgorzata Foremniak) and father (Łukasz Simlat). An inspirational and true story, Sonata shows the trials and tribulations of realising one’s talent. The film won both the Audience Award and Best Debut Actor at the Gdynia Polish Film Festival.
